Staff Picks: Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty

I just finished reading Night of the Living Rez by Morgan Talty, and I have to say, it’s one of the most eye-opening books I’ve come across. This collection of short stories weaves together the lives of indigenous people growing up on a reservation in Maine, and it hits hard. Talty doesn’t shy away from showing the harsh realities of poverty, racism, and drug addiction, but he does it with such raw honesty and humanity that you can’t help but be deeply moved. What really struck me is how little we know about the struggles of indigenous communities unless we’re living near them. I mean, we know they’re there, but the depth of their experiences, their daily lives, and the challenges they face often remain hidden. Talty’s writing brings these stories to light in a way that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. If you’re looking for a read that will broaden your perspective and touch your heart, I highly recommend “Night of the Living Rez.”
